When sifting through current marketing strategies, it’s evident that there are several ways that companies can connect directly with their consumers. However, there’s one exceptional solution that will allow feedback, along with massive brand exposure in today’s marketplace. What solution is that, you ask? Well, it’s a twitter party.

WHAT’S A TWITTER PARTY?

A twitter party is a fast paced and entertaining virtual party, utilizing the twitter platform. Twitter parties traditionally last 1-2 hours (but can be longer) and are an effective way for people to connect and discuss a brand, product launch, or particular interest.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Twitter users tweet with a specified hashtag (#) for the party. The party host will announce the hashtag prior to the event. Users can follow the hashtag to see all the tweets associated with the ‘twarty’. Tweetdeck and Tweetgrid are tools that can make twartying a lot easier.

WHY?

There are several reasons why a company would want to hold a twitter party. Whether it’s to accompany a launch or party, generate buzz about a specific product or milestone, or further ignite their social presence – twitter parties lend themselves well to any equation.

Most recently, Embrace Disruption’s founder (Cory Stewart) created, facilitated, and executed a twitter party for a company called NewEgg Canada. After exceeding expectation with the success of past twitter parties for companies like VISA, H&M and Shopcatch – this ‘TWARTY’ still managed to bring forward a few stand out moments. Check out the results below, and get a clearer idea of what a brand can achieve by hosting a ‘TWARTY’.

Interested in hosting a twitter party for your business? Let’s talk.

I thought I’d provide you all with a few simple and easy ways to really save some of your hard-earned coins while using the power of the web. I’m always looking for ways to nickel and dime my way through things – and it’s time for me to share!

1. Shopcatch – Yes, I have personal ties to this site, but Shopcatch really is a great resource to look for all the top brand retail deals available in your area. From Gap to H&M, you’ll always know what’s on sale.

2. Amazon – This one may seem like a no-brainer. If you’re buying books or DVDs – or even just looking for gift ideas, Amazon continues to have the best prices around.

3. Retail Me Not – The ultimate source to find coupons for all the well-known online retailers. Find a discount for just about anything – even the food you’re about to order!

4.Well.ca – Aside from the obvious plus that they offer free shipping in Canada – Well.ca is a great spot to get all of your household products, beauty products, and even supplements at great prices. The best part is not having to cart home all those hand soaps and big detergent bottles!

5. Use Mint.com – Honestly, I’ve recommended the app – but the website is even BETTER! Get real-time results on where your money is going, and have assistance when setting out those monthly budgets.

The only other thing I suggest is making sure you price compare before you go out to buy. Even when it comes to those expensive tops, or fancy new hard drive – there’s always a better price somewhere. Google is your best friend!

Happy Shopping! Do you have any tips to shop online better? Share them in the comments!

I recently had the opportunity to go speak about a product I represent called Shopcatch on App Central. For those of you unfamiliar with App Central, it’s a show that airs world-wide focusing on the latest and greatest in the phone applications and gadgets. During my visit, I got to chat with the ever-so-lovely Amber MacArthur (check out her site) and talk about the future of retail – particularly in the mobile space.

The experience was unparalleled and so much fun for me, mainly due to how kind and inviting Amber is. I have to say this was one of my favourite TV spots I’ve ever shot in my career with Shopcatch – and I definitely recommend following both App Central and Amber on twitter. Amber and the crew are consummate professionals, and churn out absolutely fantastic content.

The set was magical with all sorts of techy gadgets in the atmosphere. Being a closet geek, I was dying while watching as the hosts talked about all the latest and greatest in digital innovation. Amber was looking her best, while BFF Caron Court snapped photos with all the guests (see picture on the right). During our time there, everyone couldn’t help but comment about the Skinnygirl party at The Drake Hotel – we were living vicariously through twitter stream (yes, we’re all nerds). I’ll elaborate on my obsession with Bethenny Frankel another time.

I also took a blooper vid while I was there – Amber almost got hit by one of the gadgets they were showcasing!

Have you ever watched App Central?

There are few things left that we as brands can really do to garner the kind of desirable attention we’re after. Simple media buying, banner ads, etc. really don’t make the cut anymore (or atleast, can’t be the sole pieces of your campaigns). The world of social media continues to evolve daily – and I’ve yet to meet someone who truly understands the ROI of their efforts. There’s so many tools and engines out there that promise to be the answer to all your social media needs, but they tend to distract from the true minimum viable product. The reality is, social networking is innately human – and when creating buzz, and drawing attention to a brand, product or subject, it’s only right that a ‘real’ person takes on the job.

Enter the TWITTER PARTY (Twarty for short). A revolutionary new way to engage with consumers and brand advocates alike, while effectively spreading a message across millions of viewers. I currently handle the marketing efforts for a Toronto start-up called Shopcatch. Shopcatch works with retailers to provide promotional strategies that will enhance consumer experience while driving transactions. Recently I had the pleasure of taking on H&M Canada as a client: they were looking to create some exposure for their amazing CONSCIOUS collection. I thought this would be a great opportunity to provide them with a customized twitter party, and really dive into their massive consumer base. Although this was not my first time hosting a ‘twarty’ – I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised with my results.

I’ll let the INFOGRAPHIC do the talking:

As you can see, the potential for exposure is PHENOMENAL. But it doesn’t stop at retail. There’s plenty of brands, events, restaurants, openings, galleries and more that could benefit from the kind of attention a TWARTY can grab them.

If you’re interested in what a TWARTY can do for your business, or would like more info, feel free to reach out! I always love discussing initiatives, and helping brands/companies achieve maximum potential within the socialsphere.

How about you, have you ever participated in a twitter party? Tell me about it in the comments below – and be sure to include your twitter handle so I can follow you!
